Diamonds

Diamonds are the most precious stones in the world. Have you ever thought of how they get from the earth to onto your fiancĂ©’s finger? I will now describe important locations along the trade rout these most valuable of rocks pass.

Diamonds were discovered in India 3000 years ago. The average age of a diamond is at least 1 billion years old and the evidence that diamond is a very precious and valuable stone is that only 500 tones of diamonds have been mined since they have been discovered. Most Rough diamonds come from Tel Aviv, Israel. An old superstition says that wearing a diamond in your left hand gives you a good night sleep. Now we are going to see where most diamonds come from and the trade rout it passes through.
De Beers Consolidated Mines Ltd is the biggest mining company in the world and they bring most of their diamonds from South Africa. It was established in 1880, This Company now owns more than 20 mines and it controls over two thirds of the world’s diamonds. In the early twentieth century it followed a clever technique in order to make the prices of diamonds high, they used to limit the amount of diamonds in the market. Antwerp in Belgium was the centre of diamond for 600 years now only about 1,500 cutters and polishers left in Antwerp and this concern a lot of people. Nowadays about 300 Indian families are joining the diamond trade in this city. Nevertheless, still 80% of the world’s rough diamonds pass through this city now. 90% of the world’s diamonds are cut and polished in India because the cheap labor wages they are paid 40 Cents for every finished gem. In the Middle East, Dubai has a growing reputation as a diamond hub. The government has made an attracting deal of a 50 year zero tax holidays for diamond traders this will helps in the business. The business in Dubai worth’s about nearly £1 billion.

An introduction to global warming

There are many controversial issues in the world today. We are going to look at the issue of global warming. In the following, I am going to outline some causes and effects concerning the topic.
First of all, let’s talk about the causes of global warming. The pores in the ozone layer are the main reason for the global warming. The holes are caused mainly because of pollution. The use of petrol in our day to day life makes the problem even bigger. Petrol and coal is used in factories and industries commonly and a lot.
So we have to do something to solve this important problem. Why we shouldn’t make a green environment free of polluting agents? I think we have to use green cars which do not pollute our environment. An important point to take note of is that we can make our world better by looking for other alternative and non-polluting sources of energy. Such as solar energy and wind power and try to make them better.
Finally, global warming is a serious issue that we have to collaborate and solve. We have to try and teach people more about the importance of our environment.

movie review

In the movie we have watched the host was the vice president in the Clinton administration, His name is Al Gore. His first interest in climate change began while he was still in school and he continued to do so as a politician. He highlighted in his discussion the relationship between carbon dioxide and the increase in the world’s temperature. He also mentioned the ensuing effects of it.
Let’s look at some of the major results of global warming around the world according to gore’s presentation. Carbon dioxide emission have increased incredibly know a days and this happened due to cutting of trees. The increase in carbon dioxide has many serious effects on our environment. The increase of carbon dioxide makes the earth temperature higher.
The rise in temperature makes the oceans warmer which causes stronger storms. As the temperature increase the wind velocity increase. The high temperature makes the ice in the North Pole melt and this will increase sea levels. The melting of the ice increase the number of drowning polar bears because there is no more ice glacier as scientist noticed for the first time. One important point worthy of mentioning is that spring comes earlier and autumn comes later the ice melts quickly. As seasons are changing hatching of caterpillars and birds changes this makes no food for the birds so a lot of species are in danger.
Al Gore says that although the situation regarding global warming appeared dire he does speak passionately looking forward to the future . With this presentation he concluded parting nuggets of practical advice to how man can play a role in curbing climate change.
Finally, this crisis could be changed. All people should collaborate to save our world by using green energy. We all have to use our knowledge into action as well we have to freeze the carbon dioxide emission.

Social Issues – Lebanon

Lebanon is a very important and ancient country. It was mentioned 76 times in the bible and it was called “the land of milk and honey”. Its capital Beirut was nicknamed as “the Paris of the Middle East”. Lebanon is surrounded by several Arab and non –Arab countries which are Turkey, Syria, Jordan, Israel and Cyprus. In this essay am going to talk about the modern history and about Lebanon today.
This beautiful country has gone throw a lot of awful experiences. In the beginning, the problems first rose when the French gave the independence to the country in 1943 and the Christians in Lebanon at that time had the full power and the biggest role in controlling their country more than Muslims, this increased the tension between them. In 1975, the tension has reached its peak when the phalange a Christian religious group attacked and killed a bus full of Palestinians in Beirut. This tension resulted in killing almost 2000 Palestinians. Moreover, in 1982 the Israeli army invaded the Beirut in order to remove the Palestinian liberation organization (PLO). After eight years from the invasion a peace deal was made although this deal was made there were a lot of costs. About 200,000 people died and 300,000 were injured as well as the city’s economy froze.

Beirut tried to recover from what happened to it in the past years. The divisions are no longer seen and the hostilities are vanishing. A huge building program has been made to rebuild the city and began 18 years ago even though there are some attacks happen recently in the south. The peace is been established between Lebanese leaving religion out of the way. Nevertheless, still there are some problems faced by the country such as the high number of population and the low GDD.
In conclusion, even though Beirut has gone throw a very hard time and it’s still struggling to live, it earned itself the title “the city that would not die”. I hope that we all learn how to be strong like Lebanese.

Blog Project – Task 7

There are many contentious issues discussed around the world one of which is global warming. Global warming is not a single country’s problem but it is a worldwide problem. In this article I am going to talk about the causes and solutions of global warming. Finally, I am going to give my opinions with regard to the future.
Let’s now talk about the causes of global warming. Firstly, is the immediate global warming which is caused by the increase in the concentration of green house gases in the atmosphere (Global Warming Causes 2). The main green house gas emitted from burning fossil fuels is carbon dioxide. Carbon is stored fuels which we burn to give us the energy we use. The by burning these fuels we but carbon dioxide back into the air and this is done in a short amount of time so the nature is un able to remove this huge percentage of carbon dioxide in a short time. So this unbalanced process leads to global warming. Another point worthy of mentioning is the deforestation. In other words, cutting down trees for example from the amazons forests which is the earth’s lunges increase the amount of carbon dioxide in the air (Global Warming Causes 7). Moreover, burning forests to use them as farm lands increase the number of carbon dioxide.
We have looked at what causes global warming and here are some useful solutions that we should follow to contribute global warming. Imagine that lowering the heat by just one degree will prevent the emission of 203 pounds of carbon dioxide per year (The Bet is on 2). Why don’t people use public transportation or even let someone give them a left to home this will surely reduce the amount of fuel burnt. In addition, we should use compact fluorescent light bulbs because they produce the same amount of light as the traditional light bulb but with use of less electricity or why shouldn’t we use alternative and renewable energy such as wind or solar power (The Bet is on 3). Recycling paper also may help a lot to reduce global warming as fewer trees will be cut but we should find new ways to take the ink out of the papers without the use of toxic chemicals which harms the atmosphere.
In conclusion, I really think that global warming is a big issue that we are facing in our modern life. Nevertheless, I think as we now a day’s reached to such a new technology I am sure that we should have possible solutions to tackle this problem.

Blog Project Task 6- Cool Cities

Modern cities around the globe are developing in many ways with respect to transportation, buildings and a lot more and this is also happening in the UAE. As these cities become more developed and modernize they have a great effect on global warming. This development has led to a negative consequence in that the UAE uses as much as up to what is needed for 6.6 planets (Salama 1). In this article we are going to see how modern cities affect the global warming and some solutions. Finally, I will give my opinion on this topic.
First of all let’s take a look in how modern cities contribute to climate changes. One way in which they contribute to global warming is due to building design. To clarify this point, 90 percent of the carbon dioxide emitted into the air is from buildings (Cool Cities). According to Hope, materials used in buildings as well as the way building is built far from each other makes the temperatures much higher than natural. Another point worthy of mentioning is transportation which is a major problem. In big cities such as Dubai and Abu Dhabi traffic delays occurs because of the big numbers of cars and taxis and less number of other public transportations this increases carbon emission in to the air and affect global warming (Cool Cities).
Now I am going to give some possible solutions that our country started to work on. To start with Mechanical roofs that responds to the temperature have been considered as well as circulating seawater under pavements, all these are to make the city outer temperature cooler (Hope 1). Moreover, they are also thinking to install large fans to make artificial breeze as well as to shade the street with big umbrellas (Hope 1). These new projects and especially Masdar are inspired by old Arabic cities (Stanton). These were all kinds of climate mitigation (Hope 1). In addition, some possible solution for Transportation which plays a big role on affecting global warming was found. Firstly, mono rail to travel between cities, light rail transit within the city and solar ships as water transport (Cool Cities).
In conclusion, I really admire the new cities which are going to be built in future I like the new techniques which are used. But I would like to ask a question do the UAE and Middle Eastern countries are ready to replace the petrol with other means? Considering that they know that global warming is a big problem? Let’s hope for a better place to live in with a clea

Carbon Footprint

There are various ways to measure our impact on the earth from an environmental standpoint. One major way is by way of our carbon footprint. In the following report I will defined what a carbon footprint is. I will show how a carbon footprint is majored show how I rank in cooperation to others and finally I’ll make some suggestion as to how we can reduce our carbon footprints.

Let’s know look at how best to defined of carbon footprint is. A carbon footprint is a means of measuring our emission of carbon for each individual after it’s recorded. It’s measured by GHG emission assessment (UK carbon Trust (2008)”carbon footprintg”).
At first you have to go in few steps in order to measure your carbon emission. First thing you have to find one of the sites that have the carbon footprint calculator. Secondly, you have to answer each question to show how many earths you have. Third, just take the number and record it. Finally do another one in a different site and record your second result. Then find the average and it will be your final carbon footprint.
In addition, I and my friends had different records and we ranked them from the highest to the lowest. I was the least as I got 2.65. The highest was oqab and his score was 6.73 and followed him Mohammed with a score of 4.16 and at last khalifa with 4.145 earths. Moreover, the UAE average footprint of individuals is 4.5 which is compared to me double my footprint use (Green dreams 5)
To sum up, my record was 2.63 earths it’s less than many of my colleagues .It made me happy that I am less harmful than others to our planet. I strongly believe that we have to reduce our carbon emission. I thing we have to burn less fuels and to find alternative energy sources.
